Day Four – Part One: The Big Day

Sep 15, 2020

Saturday morning, I was awake before my alarm went off, but I still didn’t want to get out of bed. To be fair, I never want to get out of bed, even when it is my wedding day. I quickly found a new terrible flaw with my acrylic nails: I couldn’t do the buttons on the button shirt I brought! I had packed a button up tank top, actually bought for Mickey’s Not So Scary in 2017, and shorts to get ready in because I thought it would make easier to change and I was worried I’d overheat in a robe. I was too cold for the shorts, and for the life of me, I couldn’t get a single button on the shirt, but I didn’t want to wake Jay up. So, instead, I stole one of his pajama tank tops and put on my fluffy Appa pajama pants, and threw my actual clothes in the bag with my cosmetics.

Not a great look, but it was enough that I could head up to Cabanas to meet my friends. Lacey, Melanie, Lauren, and I were all meeting for breakfast before heading to Michael and Abby’s concierge room, which had been volunteered as the bridal suite.

I love breakfast food, but I rarely eat breakfast food so I dived in hard, and got one of basically everything. I even got eggs, and I never eat eggs.

It wasn’t even 8:00 am by this point, so the ship was deserted, and we were still moving towards Nassau.

We finished up, and headed towards room 11016. Lauren left to go get her work out in, and Melanie followed her after seeing where the room was. Michael had already left, even though he didn’t have to meet Jay until 9:00 am. The dress had been delivered to the room already, from its complimentary steaming. We dumped out my massive bag of cosmetics and hair supplies, and Lacey got to work.

During the hair and make-up trial, Stacie from FairyTale Hair and Makeup had shown Lacey step by step what to do, so we could try to match the park photos and the cruise photos as closely as possible. I was taking care of the make-up and Lacey was handling the hair, so she started with the curling iron.

We had probably been curling my hair for about fifteen minutes, when I had the bright idea to face the window, instead of the mirror, so we could both see ocean. This was a great plan, until we pulled into port, and all we could see was the Carnival Ecstasy docked beside us.

Lauren joined us after a little while to start taking photos, already dressed in her Enchanted Tiki Room dress. Morgan and Tess rolled in after a while, only to get sent back to our room for things I’d either forgotten, or couldn’t carry to breakfast, like the Bridesbears, and Nip. I also had them grab some of the champagne we’d brought onboard from the fridge, so we could do mimosas, even though I had to make mine super weak.

We had a toast, and it was definitely not a wedding appropriate or themed toast. If I’m the one toasting, there is only one toast I use:

“May we get what we want, may we get what we need, but may we never get what we deserve.”

That’s from Wonder Woman, if you didn’t recognize it.

I started on my make-up, and surprisingly got all the way to eyeliner before I ran into more problems with my nails. I couldn’t hold my eyelid down to put the eyeliner on, so Lacey wound up getting to do that too.

While packing, I discovered my good red lipstick was missing, so I had messaged Morgan and Tess to bring every red they had. I wound up using a red lipstick of my mom’s as a basecoat, and putting Tess’s on top. I asked Lauren to put Duffy in his suit, and Tess to put Nip in his.

At some point, my brother stopped by to ask where the video cameras were, and Gary came by to tell me he had discovered he could live stream, without it costing extra because he has T-Mobile. He offered to have me sign into Twenty Something in Orlando, so he could live stream to the blog’s Facebook page. I thought about it, and I decided against it because I thought it would stress me out, if something went wrong with it. Melanie came to join us. I had to make Lacey stop worrying about me and sit still for five minutes, so Melanie could pin her into her dress. (I got Lacey her dress as a Christmas present, but the only size they had was too big for her.)

I folded up my vows and stuffed them into the pocket in the back of Duffy’s suit. (Thank you Polly for making a pocket for this very purpose!) I had tried really hard to memorize thembut I was too afraid I would freezeand miss something important.

One of the many rules of costuming is “Boots Before Corset”, and the same is true for weddings. I had to get some assistance getting the Wonder Woman boots on, before I was ready for the dress. (STUPID NAILS!) Thankfully Sammi and I had made sure the dress could be stepped into, so we didn’t have to worry about messing anything up, trying to pull it over my head.

So now I was all dressed up with nowhere to go! At least not yet. Jaime, the Wedding Coordinator was meeting everyone at Guest Services at 12:15 pm, and then coming to pick us up at 12:25 pm. I sent Morgan, Tess, Lauren, and Melanie down ahead of us with the Bears. Duffy and Nip stayed with Lacey, Abby, Mom and me.

Well, 12:25 pm came and went and we were still sitting there. I had wanted them to give our friends access to set up the Bears and cameras sooner than 12:15 pm, but no luck, so I’m sure that’s what the holdup was.

Next week, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: Day Four – Part Two: The Wedding! You can read about Gary’s adventures in Nassau while we were getting ready over on Coasting With Culture!

Moving to Orlando in 2013 to join the Disney College Program was the start of the Great Florida Adventure for Chelsea and her best friend Duffy Bear. Now they spend their days exploring all there is to do in the Orlando area and seeing what adventures life where the rest of the world vacations brings.
