What feels like forever ago, advertisements started popping up on my Facebook feed for Wonderland Cookie Dough Co., a place that would be opening in Celebration selling edible cookie dough. I didn’t need much more convincing, but they weren’t open yet! I kept looking for an opening date, and had a fit of jealousy when one of my friends won their “Free Cookie Dough for a Year” promotion. Days ticked by and there was still no word on when they were opening. Maybe it really was too good to be true.
Then yesterday, something magical happened: one of my friends posted on Instagram that they were there! I immediately starting bugging Jay that we should go. It was only 1:30 p.m. and we didn’t have to be anywhere until 4:00 p.m. Plenty of time! Yes, there was another load of laundry waiting to go in the dryer, but there was cookie dough to eat! I grabbed Duffy’s Mad Hatter outfit out of storage and we were on our way.
I love Celebration, but I rarely make it out there. Apparently, Jay had never been at all. It’s such a beautiful area even on a rainy day; I look forward to the excuse to go back more often. Even with the ridiculously low speed limits, it only took us about seven minutes to get from the front of Celebration to the shop. Parallel parking was another matter. Thank goodness Jay was driving.
The shop front is absolutely adorable. I noticed the Once Upon a Time clock before I realized it belonged to Wonderland Cookie Dough Co. We stopped for pictures before we headed in.
Once we went inside, I noticed the allergy warning sign immediately, which I appreciated immensely. We were greeted by two of the employees that were super impressed with Duffy.
“Is that a Mad Hatter bear?”
“Yes!”
I put Duffy down to start taking pictures and the gentleman stopped what he was doing to turn the lights on in the window for me.
“Are you a really big Alice in Wonderland fan then?”
I tried not to laugh.
“No, actually I’m just a really big fan of the Bear and I already had the outfit.”
I don’t think he quite knew what to say to that, so I thanked him for turning the lights on and moved to take pictures of the rest of the store. One of the girls behind the counter asked if I wanted samples of anything and I had to ask her to give me a minute. I wanted to look at everything first! I finished taking my pictures and came back to the counter.
[lgc_column grid=”40″ tablet_grid=”40″ mobile_grid=”100″ last=”false”]It looked basically like an ice cream parlor setup, just with cookie dough instead of ice cream. I asked for a sample of S’mores and Jay sampled both the Oatmeal Raisin and the Chocolate Chip. I wanted to try more flavors, but I also didn’t want to be that person. I’m just going to have to go back and keep trying everything! For our first purchase though, chocolate chip felt like the only logical choice. Jay and I decided to split a medium, which is two scoops. I didn’t think to ask if you could get different flavors. [/lgc_column][lgc_column grid=”60″ tablet_grid=”60″ mobile_grid=”100″ last=”true”]
[/lgc_column]The blonde girl at the register asked if we wanted drinks and Jay practically pounced on the boxed Milk, while I settled for a soda. I took one last photo of Duffy inside, sitting on the tip jar while she held him for me. (The Mad Hatter hat makes him top heavy!)
There wasn’t a seating area inside so we headed back out. If it had been a nicer day we probably would have walked around Celebration while enjoying our cookie dough. Since it was rainy, we decided to eat in the car instead. I took a big spoonful, and Jay just wound up biting into it like an ice cream cone. I quickly followed suit. It was definitely easier than the spoon, but the spoon came in handy as we got to the bottom of the cup. It was AMAZING. It was everything wonderful about licking the spoon when your Grandmother made cookies when you were a kid without the fear of getting sick.
By the end, it was too much sugar, but that was our fault. Our last minute decision to go there hadn’t accounted for the fact that we skipped lunch. So, we basically put a ton of sugar into empty stomachs, a rookie mistake I will not make again. I look forward to going back for dessert after I’ve actually eaten.
After reading about Wonderland Cookie Dough Co. on their website, I’ve realized it is owned by people after my own heart. They followed their dreams to living right next to Disney World too! Then they decided to follow it up with opening their own business, and I am so happy to see their dreams coming true. I hope they have they are successful and open for years to come, and not just so I can keep going back!
I am also extremely pleased to see how allergy conscious they are right from the start. They offer vegan, gluten free and sugar free options already! Better yet, I didn’t see an upcharge on those items like I do most places! I look forward to seeing them expand that. The fact that you can buy milk to go with your cookie dough is amazing, and I am excited for the day they have a Chelsea-friendly alternative available like Almond Milk. (I have a mild dairy allergy that doesn’t prevent me from eating things like cookie dough or most baked goods, but it keeps me far away from things like milk and cheese.)
Cost: Their pricing is incredibly reasonable. One scoop of cookie dough and a drink will run you about $6. We spent $11 and change on two scoops of cookie dough and two drinks.
Duration: We were only there about fifteen minutes, but it was also too rainy to really enjoy walking around Celebration.
Value: 10/10. Will be going back and SOON!
Add Ons: For $1 you can put your cookie dough in a waffle cone. I wish we had done this actually to counteract our sugar high and empty stomachs.
