MegaCon: 2019

Dec 31, 2019

It’s been a quiet year on Twenty Something in Orlando, but 2019 has been anything but quiet for me. It’s been hard to write, but I’m determined to change that going into next year. So, in the spirit of changing things, I’m going to share something I should have written about a long time ago. Back in May, I got to be on Channel 13 News about cosplay and MegaCon!

We’re actually two for two on winning passes to MegaCon. In 2018, I won two VIP passes for the whole weekend, and this year Jay managed to win the Deluxe Four Day passes.

About a month and a half before MegaCon, my friend Ken posted on Facebook looking for cosplayers for a potential news story. Ken and I worked at the World Famous Jungle Cruise together in 2013, before he went to work for Channel 13 News. I volunteered, and next thing I knew, he and Alison had come to my house to interview me.

You can watch the video here.

Not seen in the video: Fiona, our husky, decided to help both Ken and Alison during the interview, by standing entirely too close to them, and covering everyone in fur. We had to stop for a minute, so I could stop laughing.

I thought I was going to be one of several cosplayers in the story, but it turns out I was the only interview that made it into the final cut. Originally, we were only going to MegaCon on Friday, which is why I thought I wouldn’t be able to wear Wonder Woman, because I thought I’d be doing the interview and meeting Stephen Amell in the same day. Luckily, Jay winning four-day passes meant I was able to move meeting Stephen to Sunday.

Stephen Amell did not read my shirt out loud like I was hoping, but I at least got my hug.

The surprising hit of the convention was actually going to John Barrowman’s panel. We were laughing so hard we were crying.

I guess I better get started on winning tickets for next year!

Moving to Orlando in 2013 to join the Disney College Program was the start of the Great Florida Adventure for Chelsea and her best friend Duffy Bear. Now they spend their days exploring all there is to do in the Orlando area and seeing what adventures life where the rest of the world vacations brings.
