Back in November, Mickey and Minnie celebrated their 90th Birthdays. To celebrate, I dragged Jay to meet Mickey in all four parks. Disney had announced that Mickey and Minnie would be getting special new outfits as part of Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration, but they wouldn’t be debuting until a few months later.
Naturally, I dragged Jay to go see them on the very first day of Surprise Celebration!
The last time I saw Mickey and Minnie meeting together at Town Square Theater in Magic Kingdom was at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in 2013. Then talking Mickey debuted, and Minnie would be banished to Storybook Circus on a permanent basis, even for special events.
Until now!
For the first time in forever, Disney’s number one couple are meeting guests together again. Both Mickey and Minnie will be appearing at Town Square Theater until Surprise Celebration ends at the end of September.
Being the first day Mickey and Minnie were out in their new outfits, the wait times had been pretty long all day. Thankfully we had Fastpasses! We were through the line in no time, and pretty soon were in the room with the Main Mice.
A few of the decorations were new. The rehearsal schedule for Magician Mickey was gone, replaced by a new poster for “Mickey’s Surprise Party”.
The Magician Mickey banner had also disappeared, and been replaced with one for “Celebration Central.”
There were plenty of colorful streamers hanging from the ceiling, but the fact that the “balloons” weren’t Mickey balloons made me sadder than it should have. Seemed like a missed opportunity.
I love Mickey and Minnie’s new outfits, but I’m not sure how I feel about the hats. They weren’t in the promotional images released last year, and the fact that they’re clear trips me out a little.
However, Mickey and Minnie were wonderful as ever, and I’m so happy to get to meet them together again. It’s so cute getting to watch them interact with each other!
I hope they’ll keep Minnie at Town Square Theater with Mickey from now on, even after the Surprise Celebration is over. It never feels right meeting one without the other.
