The Justice League has come to Orlando at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum on International Drive! If you’d told me a year and one week ago that I would have cared about this, I would have said you were crazy. Except Wonder Woman released on June 2nd, 2017 and on June 3rd it became my favorite movie. I couldn’t care less about Batman or Superman, but if Wonder Woman is there, I’m in.
(Unfortunately, this mentality led to me wasting my money on the Justice League movie, but that’s a rant for another time.)
The Official MegaCon Kickoff party was also going to be the Official Premier of the “Call for Heroes” exhibit at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. Since we were already going to be at MegaCon with four-day VIP passes, I priced out going to the Kickoff. It was $30 plus tax per person and included a trip on the Orlando Eye/Orlando Icon. (The name change had been announced but apparently no one told MegaCon.) Since I’ve done the Eye/Icon before, and Jay had no interest, we decided to skip the party and go the next night with the Florida Resident rate.
This actually worked out for the best, because I was already planning on cosplaying Wonder Woman on Friday, and I wouldn’t have to change my cosplay line up, and because my friend had already volunteered to help with hair and makeup. You can read all about that adventure in MegaCon: the VIP Experience.
Jay and I parked in the lot behind the complex, instead of dealing with the parking garage and headed inside. Since we came in the back, we didn’t pass very many people, so we drew a lot of stares when I walked out into the food court. We went over to buy our tickets, and the attendant didn’t seem impressed, or even surprised by my costume. I was a little disappointed, but we paid and went in.
I had been to Madame Tussauds before with my friend Lacey, so I knew what to expect, but Jay had never been. As soon as you walk in, there’s a green screen and a photographer. The photographer’s excitement over my costume more than made up for the ticket attendant’s indifference! He took three photos of us on the green screen, and we moved on.
We basically just walked through the entire museum without stopping to look at much of anything. Jay stopped for a picture with Walt Disney, because he couldn’t pass it up, but we blew past everything else.
There was a door at the entrance to the “Call for Heroes” section, and a screen with a bit of a preshow. (I think not naming it “Hall of Justice” was a mistake, but no one asked me.) We arrived right as it was ending, and the door opened, so I honestly have no idea what it was. Based on iPad screens I saw mounted throughout the exhibit, I think there was some sort of interactive thing, where you can complete things to help the heroes, but I really only cared about photos.
We came into what I assume where the streets of… Metropolis? Gotham? I don’t actually know, but it was a back-alley sort of set, and there she was! Wonder Woman was immediately on the right, and two other girls were taking their picture with her. I waited my turn, and then heard an employee say, “Oh my God!”
The best part of our Justice League experience was how excited the employees were. One said to the other, “Did you see? WE HAVE A WONDER WOMAN!”
Jay and I took several pictures, but I didn’t want to hog Wonder Woman for too long, so we moved on. The area whole area was really well themed and awesome for pictures in general, not just the ones with the figures. It was really dark though, so getting good pictures was a challenge, because we didn’t want to use the flash for everything. (The flash on my camera, not the actual Flash. He wasn’t included in the not Hall of Justice.) We took a few pictures with different piles of rubble, and then it was my turn to help Superman lift a helicopter.
Of course, Superman needed Wonder Woman’s help.
I went over to take my picture with Batman, and one of the employees set off the effects for us. The whole air filled with mist, which was really cool, but we had to wait for it to clear to take the photos.
Jay had me check the photos on the camera, and we went back for another round of photos with everyone, because I wanted to change a couple things. We took a few more just background shots, and I heard someone say, “Oh wow, I thought she was one of the models!”
I don’t know if they were serious, but I appreciated the compliment.
We made our way out, with one quick stop to sit in Stephen Spielberg’s director’s chair.
Out in front of the Eye/Icon, they had the Batmobile on display for the first week of the exhibit, so we went outside to take those pictures. Wonder Woman showing up surprised a whole lot of people, and I noticed a couple little girls watching as we took our photos. I thought they were going to ask for a picture, and I was a little sad when they didn’t.
It’s okay. We got some awesome pictures anyway.
We headed back to the car to resume the rest of our MegaCon mini vacation.
